Quicker background notifications

To provide quicker email notifications, all email apps will use their own push notification servers to check for new email ids.
Other email apps don't ask to do this and simply turn this feature on automatically. AltaMail will always ask you before enabling push notifications when the app is installed. You can also change the push notification setting in the notification settings screen.

Gmail and Exchange accounts do not push notification servers so this method does not apply to these type of accounts. Gmail notifications only use Gmail notification servers. Exchange notifications use Microsoft email servers.

Unlike other apps, AltaMail does not read your email content outside of your device. Your emails are not processed or routed by any server other than your own email server.

Our secure push notification servers will only check for a new message count and never access any email message content. No data is ever saved in files or a database. After receiving a generic notification, AltaMail will then read and process the new email message on your device inside the app to fill in the notification details. Your email content is only accessed on your own device and never shared with any other party, including us. Our secure push notification servers are restricted for access to only our CEO.

Other apps read the full content of your emails on their own company servers to create a notification to send to your device. Other apps also store your login credentials in files or a database on their notification servers.

If you choose to turn off the push background notifications, AltaMail will still provide notifications after a delay. The delay is controlled by the iOS on your device. There may be longer delays when using mobile data which is also controlled by iOS.
